ASTM A572/A572M Grade 415 Type 5 Introduce
ASTM A572/A572M is a steel standard developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) that was first published in 2019. The standard is a structural grade of high strength, low alloy (HSLA) steel that is used primarily in structural and bridge applications. It is widely used in construction projects due to its strength, weldability and formability. ASTM A572/A572M is available in five grades – 42, 50, 55, 60 and 65. ASTM A572/A572M Grade 415 Type 5 is intended for transportation purposes, engineering structures such as bridges, transmission towers, buildings and other heavy structures.
Smelting temperature:1683°C - 1527°C
Application:Technical specification for high strength low alloy cobalt vanadium structural steel
ASTM A572/A572M Grade 415 Type 5 Material Mechanical Properties
ASTM A572/A572M Grade 415 Type 5 steel is known for its considerable mechanical strength, which is typically measured as yield strength and tensile strength. Yield strength is the maximum load needed to deform the material to a specific point, while tensile strength measurements indicate the resistance of the material to break due to stretching or shearing. The typical yield strength of ASTM A572/A572M Grade 415 Type 5 steel ranges from 345-344 MPa (50-51 ksi) and tensile strength can reach up to 690-890 MPa (100-130 ksi).
The mechanical properties of the ASTM A572/A572M Grade 415 Type 5 steel are as follows:

ASTM A572/A572M Grade 415 Type 5 Material Machining Technology
One of the main advantages of ASTM A572/A572M Grade 415 Type 5 steel is its excellent weldability. This steel can be welded using a variety of welding processes, including shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW). Additionally, this steel is relatively easy to weld, as it only requires preheating for highly restrained joints. The mechanical properties of the welds are also good due to the low carbon and manganese content of this steel.
