Application:General structure rolling steel

JIS G3101 SS490 Material Mechanical Properties

The impact test value of JIS G3101 SS490 steel is also important when assessing its suitability for use in a given application. The impact test value corresponds to the capacity of the steel to absorb energy. The strength of the material is expressed as the Charpy v-notch test value (Cv). Values of Cv range from 27J (for grade SS400) to 20J (for grade SS490).

The mechanical properties of the JIS G3101 SS490 steel are as follows:

JIS G3101 SS490 Material Machining Technology

When machining JIS G3101 SS490 steel, the best cutting tool material to use is high-speed steel (HSS). HSS tools have the highest strength and wear resistance of any cutting tool material, making them ideal for machining through cast material that contains difficult-to-cut elements such as cobalt, chromium, and molybdenum. Other cutting tools such as carbide and cobalt can also be used, but these materials can wear down quicker than HSS when machining through the hard physical properties of the material.
