ASTM A517/A517M A517 Grade P is a low-alloy, high-strength steel plate with a tensile range of 110-130 ksi (758 - 896 MPa). The plate's thickness usually ranges from 5/16" to 2", with a minimum yield strength of 65 ksi (448 MPa). ASTM A517/A517M A517 Grade P steel is designed for use in pressure vessels and boilers in applications that require higher strength and improved toughness and weldability.

ASTM A517/A517M A517 Grade P steel has excellent mechanical properties due to its combination of specified chemical composition and processing controls used during hot-forming and cold-working. The tensile strength of the material is in the range of 115-135 ksi, and its yield strength is in the range of 75-100 ksi. The material also exhibits excellent ductility, with an elongation range of 16-25%, and a reduction of area of 45-55%.
