JIS G3115 SPV42 Introduce

This steel is produced by thermo-mechanical control processing (TMCP) as indicated by the "G" in its name (G3115). This process involves a complete thermal cycle involving hot-rolling, reheating, cooling and quenching in cool water, followed by self-tempering reheating (leveling). With tempered rolling, the surface of the plates achieves more uniform flatness and hardness, better inter-laminar strength in the case of un-alloyed steels, and improved homogeneity, texture, and fusion of lamellar pearlite in the thickness direction, producing an overall uniform product in strength, micro-structure and spheroidized carbides.

JIS G3115 SPV42 Material Mechanical Properties

The mechanical properties of JIS G3115 SPV42 steels, such as yield and tensile strength, Hardness, impact toughness, fracture toughness, and Charpy V notch impact test, are essential for the material selection of pressure vessel plates.
The yield strength of JIS G3115 SPV42 steels ranges from 240-518MPa, which is above the minimum yield strength of plates made of mild steels. This makes these steels suitable for applications where high stress and strain is expected.
The tensile strength of JIS G3115 SPV42 steels ranges from 415-650MPa, which is significantly higher than the tensile strength of plates made of mild steels. This high tensile strength makes them ideal for construction, pressure vessel applications, and shipbuilding.
The hardness of JIS G3115 SPV42 steels ranges from HRB 20 to 35, which is higher than that of mild steels. The hardness of these steels increases with their carbon content. The greater the hardness, the better their wear resistance and thus the longer their service life.
JIS G3115 SPV42 steels have an impact toughness ranging from 27-48J, which is sufficient for most pressure vessel applications. The higher impact toughness of these steels can be attributed to their higher alloy content.
JIS G3115 SPV42 steel plates have a fracture toughness of 9 to 12MPa.m, which is much higher than that of mild steels. This higher fracture toughness of JIS G3115 SPV42 steels makes them suitable for applications requiring good notch toughness.
