EN 10083-2 1C22 Material Mechanical Properties

The EN 10083-2 standard defines the mechanical properties required for product steels. These mechanical properties include strength, toughness, hardenability and fatigue.
Strength – The strength of product steels is evaluated according to the total yield strength of the material. This is calculated as the minimum value of tensile strength plus 0.2 % of proof strength or 0.5 % of Rp0.2. A special strength value may also be specified.
Toughness – The toughness of product steels is evaluated according to the Charpy impact test. The required minimum-value for the fracture toughness should not be lower than the specified value.
Hardenability – The hardenability of product steels is evaluated according to the Jominy test. The required minimum-values for the quenched and tempered hardenability should not be lower than the specified value.
Fatigue – The fatigue of product steels is evaluated according to the Charpy impact fatigue test. The required minimum-value for the resistance of specimen to fatigue should not be lower than the specified value.

The mechanical properties of the EN 10083-2 1C22 steel are as follows:

EN 10083-2 1C22 Material Machining Technology

The machining of EN 10083-2 1C22 steel is best achieved using high speed steel tools with a positive rake angle and a finishing tool with a very low torque. In order to produce a smooth surface finish, it is important to control the cutting forces throughout the machining process.
